Jul 15, 2016- A massive flood at Bahuligad River in Bajhang district that took place at 4 pm Friday created panic in the area. The flood has swept a suspension bridge connecting the district headquarters Chainpur. Three shops alongside the river have also been swept away by the flood.
As the intensity of flood has not yet subsided, nearby houses are in threat of being swept away. Houses near the river have been vacated. Authorities are making people aware of the risk through local radio stations, it is learnt.
In view of possible destructive situation, local authority has heavily deployed police personnel while Nepal Army is also instructed to be on standby.
Around 40 houses around Bahuligad are at the risk of inundation. Furthermore, if the river changes its course due to extreme water level, it is likely that Chainpur market also might get inundated. Police have asked Chainpur-dwellers to stay alert.
Villages near the origination of the river like Surma and Daulichaur are also expected to have been worst-hit by the flood, however, details of the situation in the area are yet to arrive.
According to locals, this is the largest flood that occurred in Bahuligad River in the last 16 years.
